The Steelhead

Ya we know, Steelhead aren't one of the "western native trout".  But when thinking about fish conservation, we just had to include them.  They are absolutely one of the most threatened species of fish.  But unlike some of the other species, the main threat are dams.  A huge amount of the Steelhead population travels up the Columbia River and into Oregon, Washington, and Idaho.  But with up to 7 dams to get through, this has caused the amount of returning native steelhead to decline.  And unlike most other trout species, Steelhead migrate to the ocean and then return to their home river to spawn.

Habitat - You can find Steelhead in Alaska, Canada, Washington, Oregon, California, and Idaho, if you are lucky enough to find them.  This species should be on every anglers bucket list, but should also be near the top of every anglers species that we absolutely have to preserve.
